MOTHER'S DAY TRADITION

Our family celebrates Mother's Day by going on an annual pilgrimage to Annie's Annuals over in Livermore to pick out plants and then we all come home and do an afternoon of planting those plants and other spring gardening. It's not a "traditional" Mother's Day, but it's something we do as a family, and centers around working together and being a family. I really enjoy this tradition we have, and I also love that it's not focused on "things" (aside from the new plants or vegetable seedlings) but rather being together and working on something we all get to enjoy--our yard.

When considering 'holidays,' I think it's useful to be reminded that we have the freedom to shape celebrations how we choose within our families, and provide other perspectives to our loved ones besides or in addition to commercial representations. Do you have any traditions that are unique to your family? We'd love to hear about it from you.

And to all the Moms--Happy Mother's Day this week!!
